Welcome to Skeeters Home of the Skeeter-Dog since 1927.
We like to stop on family trips someplace unique,
Skeeters seemed like the perfect place, according to the Internet, a "homey establishment for locals and travelers alike."
The menu - one hot dog 1.59......100 hot dogs 159.00
Old metal bar stools, red vinyl tops, well worn wooden floor,
Old soda fountains, tin advertisements for Coke on the wall.
We walk in and everyone turns and looks at us,
Obviously we don't belong in there.
We're the youngest people in Skeeterville.
Lunch is served on a napkin, our Skeeter-Dog
They ask me why the Skeeter-dogs are "red."
"It's because they are famous," I reply, not looking at mine just eating it.
"Hey, these are pretty good," they reply as we finish our lunch,
Listening to the locals' conversations, watching the people coming and going.
A lesson in history, a little local culture, and a story they'll tell their friends.
Skeeters - home of the famous Skeeter-dog!
Let me guess, they did not have any turkey dogs or "tofurkey"ones did they?
ReplyDeleteWas thinking a great salad, ended up with a chili skeeter-dog. Ugh!
